The top of the sky: the meridian where this planet stood highest at the minute you were born. It is the angle of the public record, and it governs work, standing, and the thing a person ends up known for, which is not always the thing they set out to do.
A Midheaven line is a meridian. It runs pole to pole at a single longitude, which is why it draws straight while the horizon lines curve.
The Midheaven is the highest point the sky reaches over a place, and the Sun there is the plainest statement astrocartography makes. Nothing about the meaning is subtle, which is its own kind of usefulness: this is the line to read when the question is about standing rather than about feeling, and the one most likely to sit badly with someone who works best out of sight.

The sky puts your name in the window. Work done here is seen, and being seen changes what you are willing to attempt. Authority tends to arrive before you feel ready for it, and rooms turn toward you when you speak. This is a place for the part of a life you want on the record.
Being recognized is not the same as being understood, and under a strong Sun MC you can be celebrated for a version of yourself you have already outgrown. The heat is constant, pride is the cheapest way to burn, and rest looks so unimpressive here that it usually gets skipped.
Ask this line about work you want on the public record: a launch, a promotion, a move made for a career rather than for a life. It has almost nothing to say about home, and it is a bad line to consult about rest, because the register it answers in is exposure. If the real question is whether you are tired, the Imum Coeli lines are the ones to read.

The distances are measured. Each is the shortest great-circle distance from a real settlement to the exact curve of the line, computed against a committed public-domain gazetteer by the same engine that measures a paying customer's own.
The interpretation is a different kind of thing and we would rather say so than blur it. It is craft, written by hand in the tradition locational astrologers have refined since the nineteen seventies, and it describes what a place tends to support and to demand. It is not a prediction, and no line on any map decides what happens to a person.
