The western horizon: where this planet was sinking out of sight as you were born. It is the Ascendant's opposite point and the angle of the other party, governing partners, rivals and counterparts, and whatever reaches a life through other people rather than through effort.
A Descendant line is a curve, not a stripe. The longitude where a planet sets shifts with latitude, and it shifts hardest near the latitudes where that planet stops setting at all.
The Descendant is the angle of the person opposite, and the Moon there recruits people who need tending or who tend well. Both versions are common and they can be hard to tell apart at first. What is reliably true is that relationships form on feeling rather than on shared plans here, which is why they deepen faster and why the ordinary friction of two lives takes longer to surface.

Closeness happens quickly here and goes deep. You draw the tender and the tending, people who want looking after or want to do the looking after, and the bond forms well before the terms are clear. Love in this place is felt rather than negotiated.
Need can pass for intimacy for years before anyone names it. Boundaries blur, care hardens into obligation, and the search for a partner who will mother you rarely ends where you hoped it would.
Ask this line about a move made for or with somebody: following a partner, moving nearer family, choosing where a relationship should live. It has little to say about a career decision. Its blind spot is the practical, because it describes how close you will become to people there and not whether you can afford to be there.

The distances are measured. Each is the shortest great-circle distance from a real settlement to the exact curve of the line, computed against a committed public-domain gazetteer by the same engine that measures a paying customer's own.
The interpretation is a different kind of thing and we would rather say so than blur it. It is craft, written by hand in the tradition locational astrologers have refined since the nineteen seventies, and it describes what a place tends to support and to demand. It is not a prediction, and no line on any map decides what happens to a person.
