Astrocartography tools compared
Four other astrocartography tools and this one, on seven questions that can be settled by reading a page rather than by forming an opinion about one. Every claim about somebody else carries the day it was established and the thing that was done to establish it.
There is no score and no winner here. Three of these tools are free, most of them do things this one does not, and the section under each says so.
A claim with no date is a rumour
Comparison pages rot faster than anything else on a website. They are written once, by somebody who checked, and read for years by people with no way of telling that nobody has checked since. This site made that mistake in its own notes: an outreach plan was built on the line that every competitor gates their calculator behind an email address, which was written down without being checked and is false.
So each answer below carries two things. The date it was established, and what was actually done, written so a stranger can repeat it in a few minutes and either confirm it or catch us. The receipts are printed in full under each tool rather than hidden in a footnote, because a receipt nobody reads is decoration.
A test in this repository fails when any claim on this page passes 90 days old, naming the claim and how to re-establish it. That is the only mechanism that keeps a page like this true, and it is deliberately the kind that creates work.
Every claim on this page was verified on the date beside it. The oldest is 2026-08-01, and claims expire at 90 days.

Each question below has a stated bar, so that a yes from one tool means the same thing as a yes from another. Nothing here is weighted, and the order of the rows is the order a reader tends to ask them in, not an order of importance.

In part means the tool publishes some of what the question asks for, and the receipt under that tool says which part. Not established means the check could not be run, and the receipt says why.
Why one column is about arithmetic
Six of the seven rows above are about what a tool publishes. One of them is about what a tool computes, and it is worth separating.
Every astrocartography tool has to answer “how far is this place from that line”. There are two ways to do it. The short one finds where the line crosses your own latitude and counts the east-west distance to it. The correct one finds the nearest point on the whole curve. The short one is never nearer than the correct one, so it always overstates, and on tilted horizon lines it overstates a lot.
That is measurable rather than arguable, and it is measured here on a published corpus of 3 charts, 40 lines each, against 3,114 settlements: 18,917 place-and-line pairs inside the outermost band. 1,615 of the 9,346 horizon-line pairs land in the wrong band under the shortcut. The worst single pair is put at 1,756.4 km when it is really 726.1 km away, an overstatement of 1,030.3 km. And 5 influences are invisible to the shortcut entirely, the nearest of them 13.8 km from its line. None of the four tools above states which of the two it computes. That is the honest finding, and it is not an accusation: it is possible that some of them compute the correct one and simply do not say. A reader cannot tell, which is the whole point of the row.
Sometimes the answer is that nothing is there
Counted across the 120 chart lines on the three published charts on this site, 21 of them, 18%, have no settlement of any size inside 80 km. Not a small town. Nothing.
None of the four pages checked addresses that case. It is the least glamorous row in the table and probably the most useful one, because a tool that has no way of saying “there is nothing here” has only one thing it can return, and a band wide enough to always return something has stopped being a measurement.
What each one is, and where it is better
Every tool below gets the same three things: a sentence on what it is, a section on where it beats this one, and the full receipt for each of its seven answers. The middle section is required content rather than a courtesy, and two of the four are large.
Astro-Seek
A free astrocartography map inside one of the largest free astrology calculator collections on the web, in seven languages.
Where they are better
Breadth, and price, and it is not close. The astrocartography map is one tool beside free calculators for natal, transit, progressed, solar arc, solar return, synastry, composite, Davison, traditional, sidereal, draconic and asteroid charts, ephemeris tables from 1800 to 2100, aspect and ephemeris search engines, and a celebrity chart database. On the astrocartography tool itself they offer two things we do not: paran lines, and a switch between the zodiacal and in mundo projections, with a FAQ entry explaining what moves when you flip it. If the question is which tool does more for nothing, the answer is theirs.

Read the calculator page text through the r.jina.ai proxy. The form asks for birth date, time, city or manual latitude and longitude, timezone, daylight saving, a zodiacal or in mundo choice, which planets to draw, and paran lines. Their FAQ at astro-seek.com/faq?question=21 publishes natal aspect orbs in degrees: 7°00' for the major aspects, widened to 10°00' when the Sun or Moon is involved, 4°00' for the sextile and 2°30' for the minor aspects. Those are aspect orbs, not distances. The astrocartography page itself contains no orb, no km and no mile. Repeat: fetch both pages through the proxy and grep each for orb and for km.

The same FAQ entry does disclose how their lines are drawn: zodiacal or ecliptic projection by default, against the in mundo or latitude method they attribute to Jim Lewis, with the consequence for the Pluto ASC line spelled out. That is a line-construction disclosure and it is a real one. Nothing on either page states how far a place is from a line or how that figure would be found: grepping the calculator page text for distance, km, mile and great-circle returns nothing.

Grepped the calculator page text and the linked FAQ entry for no line, nothing, and none. No statement covers a place with no line near it. The tool's output is a drawn map rather than a per-place readout, so there is nowhere it would naturally appear, which is worth knowing rather than holding against it.

Requested astro-seek.com/api and astro-seek.com/developers with a browser user agent: both returned HTTP 403 from the Cloudflare edge, which is what every path on that domain returns to a scripted request, including robots.txt. A 403 there is evidence about the edge and not about the site, so this is recorded as not established. Anyone with a browser session can settle it in a minute.

Requested astro-seek.com/.well-known/mcp.json directly and through the r.jina.ai proxy. Both returned the Cloudflare security-verification page rather than a 404 or a document, so neither presence nor absence was established.

The calculator page links no worked example or sample output; the reader's own generated map is the output. Grepped the page text for example and sample. Not checked: whether any of their other tools publishes one, since the claim is scoped to the astrocartography product.
astro.com (Astrodienst)
AstroClick Travel, a clickable world map of planetary lines, published by Astrodienst AG in Zurich.
Where they are better
Heritage, and it is the kind that our own engine leans on. Astrodienst publishes the Swiss Ephemeris, and the external gate that keeps this site's line positions honest checks them against Swiss Ephemeris values, so the standard we prove ourselves against is theirs. The same site carries the Astro-Databank birth-data collection whose Rodden ratings decide which charts we consider publishable, and report authors including Liz Greene and Robert Hand. AstroClick Travel also states its own limits more plainly than most of this category manages: its introduction says the tool is meant for entertainment and asks readers not to base important life decisions on it.

AstroCarto
A free astrocartography map with paid layers above it: personal reports, city comparison, a candidate-city shortlist, PDF export and an AI follow-up chat.
Where they are better
They publish a methodology page, and they are the only one of these four who does. It runs thirteen sections covering inputs, geocoding, line calculation, how a city check becomes evidence, how a report is generated, how findings stay traceable, what their AI layer receives and what it may not invent. Their llms.txt names their ephemeris library, their geocoder and their tile source. The product also does things ours does not: comparing several chosen cities against one goal, a shortlist of candidate cities by region, saved places, and a browser extension. And their boundary language holds: their own page says the AI does not decide where the user should move.

Fetched the homepage, the calculator page and /how-we-calculate-astrocartography and searched all three for a number followed by km or miles: nothing. The only matches for orb on any of them are an orbit-grid background image and an icon class name. Their methodology names strength bands but publishes no boundary for them.

Their methodology page has a section titled how distance and strength bands should be read, and what it says about the distance itself is that line distance is approximate. It does not say whether that is a shortest great-circle distance to the line or an offset measured along a parallel, and prints no figure. They publish /astrocartography-chart-example, and it labels itself: a synthetic demo showing the structure and depth of a personal report without using a real user's birth data, whose places, distances, lines, parans, support signals and cautions are described as example values. It is a structural preview of what a report contains rather than a finished report, which they say plainly.
UpAstrology
A free astrocartography map with line-by-line explainer pages, inside a wider Western and Vedic astrology site.
Where they are better
They answer the distance question in public, in plain language, on the page. Their FAQ asks how far a line's influence extends and prints bands for it, which is more than most of this category offers a reader who wants to know before running anything. Their free map asks for no email and no account. Their coverage is also much wider than ours: Vedic and sidereal charts, synastry and karmic aspects, numerology, human design, a mobile app, and six other languages.

Published distance bands are more than most of this category offers. They are introduced as a common guide, no source is named for them, and the page does not say the map applies them.

No example or sample reading is published or linked from the calculator page; grepping its text for example finds only an explanation of what a line crossing means. Their per-planet line pages explain what a line means in general rather than showing a finished reading.
Four things left out on purpose
- No score, no stars, no winner.
A score is a weighting of these seven rows, and the right weighting depends on what you came for. The table states facts and stops. - No screenshots and no logos.
A screenshot ages the moment somebody ships a redesign, and a page whose claims are dated should not carry evidence that silently is not. Every tool gets a link instead. - No claim that could not be re-checked in five minutes.
If a fact could not be written into a repeatable check, it is not here. That is why two cells say the answer was not established rather than filling in the likely one. - No judgement of the readings themselves.
Whether one tool interprets a Venus line better than another is a matter of taste and cannot be settled by fetching a page, so it is not a row.
Common questions
- Why is there no winner or score on this page?
- A score is a weighting, and a weighting is an opinion about which of these seven things matters most to you. We do not know that. The table states what each tool does and does not publish, in a fixed order, and leaves the ranking where it belongs.
- How do I know these claims are current?
- Every claim carries the date it was established and a description of what was actually done, specific enough to repeat in a few minutes. A test in this repository fails when any claim is older than 90 days, so the page cannot quietly become folklore.
- Why does one column say the answer was not established?
- Astro-Seek sits behind a challenge that answers scripted requests for every path on its domain, so two of its cells could not be settled by fetching. Recording that is more useful than a guess dressed as a finding, and anyone with a browser can settle them.
- Are the other tools worse?
- Not on the axes this page does not measure. Each of the four has a section saying where it is better, written from the same pass that produced the claims, and two of those concessions are substantial. A comparison that cannot lose a column is an advertisement.
